Rosina Bonavita, most commonly known as “Rosie the Riveter,” was a hero and inspiration to many women in World War II. At the time, men were going to the war to fight and left their wives behind, but Rosie decided to do something when her family members fought in the war. She wanted to help so she decided to make weapons and ammo used in the war. Rosie made weapons and tools in mass, and provided a lot of support and supplies in the war. Rosie made over 3,000 rivets, or nails, used to create weapons and other vehicles used in the war. Seeing Rosie do this, many women were inspired to help out and also help in the making of supplies for the war. They produced ships, planes, tanks, and many more items used in the war. Those who helped called themselves “Rosies” because of Rosie the Riveter. Over five million women helped take the jobs that men would usually do and helped while the men fought. They took on hard labor to help so many people. Rosie is a trailblazer because she encouraged many women to help out in the war and she did a job a woman wasn’t expected to do at the time. She took the first step that inspired so many others. Rosie took action in a time of need that resulted in huge supplies to the war so that they could keep fighting and so they wouldn’t lose the war.
